The National Citizens Party (NCP) candidate Nasiruddin Patwary has demanded a recount of votes, alleging irregularities in the election and its results.
He also demanded the postponement of oath-taking of the newly elected candidate Mirza Abbas until a proper recount is completed.
On Sunday (February 15), an application written by Patwary was submitted to Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin by NCP leader Kazi Fakhrul Islam on his behalf where Patwary alleged irregularities in 12 polling centers across 11 specific points.
Considering the overall circumstances, Nasiruddin Patwary has called for the suspension of the Dhaka-8 constituency election results, a proper investigation into the alleged irregularities and legal action against the officials found responsible.
According to unofficial results, Mirza Abbas secured 59,366 votes, while Patwary received 54,127 votes in the constituency.
