Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud has said there is no chance to recount the votes in the much-discussed Dhaka-8 constituency.

In this seat, Mirza Abbas of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) faced strong competition from National Citizen Party (NCP) candidate Nasir Uddin Patwari.

Abbas, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, won by 4,980 votes. He received 56,552 votes, while Patwari received 51,572 votes.

There had been tension between supporters of both candidates since the evening over the election results in this constituency. Both candidates met with the returning officer and submitted complaints.

On election night, around 2:30 AM, NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan held a press conference and demanded a recount of the votes in this constituency under the supervision of the Election Commission.
