International media outlets have closely followed Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary election, highlighting preliminary results that indicate a sweeping victory for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

Although the Election Commission has yet to announce official results, unofficial tallies suggest that the BNP has secured more than 200 seats, positioning it for an outright majority in the 299-seat parliament.

The election marks the first national vote since the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024. A total of 51 political parties participated in the election, though the Awami League did not contest due to a ban.

Based on preliminary results from reliable sources, several leading global news organizations have reported on the outcome.

India’s NDTV said in its headline that the BNP, led by Tarique Rahman, was heading toward a massive victory in Bangladesh, with Jamaat acknowledging the trend.

The report described the outcome as a historic comeback for the BNP in Dhaka following the 2024 political upheaval.

Indian news agency ANI reported that vote counting was underway and that public sentiment appeared to favor Tarique Rahman’s leadership.

The Hindu highlighted Rahman’s role in steering the BNP toward victory two decades after its last major electoral success.

In Pakistan, Geo News described the result as a historic election in which the BNP secured a two-thirds majority.

Another report from the outlet said Pakistan was seeking fraternal ties with Bangladesh under the new government.

Dawn reported that the BNP had achieved a major victory and pledged to maintain stability.

In the United Kingdom, the BBC made the BNP’s electoral success its lead story, describing it as a landslide win in the first election since the rise of Gen Z activism.

Reuters also featured the development prominently, noting that the son of a former ruler was poised to become prime minister following the BNP’s victory.

The Guardian similarly reported that the BNP had secured a historic win in the first election since the removal of Sheikh Hasina.

In the United States, CNN highlighted the BNP’s large win in the post-uprising election.

Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported that the BNP was claiming victory, while Jamaat-e-Islami expressed dissatisfaction with aspects of the vote count.

Final confirmation of the results awaits the Election Commission’s official declaration.
