A BNP leader reopened a party office of the banned political organisation, Bangladesh Awami League, in Panchagarh district on Friday morning.

According to sources, the incident took place at the Awami League office at Chaklahat union under Panchagarh Sadar upazila, when BNP’s upazila unit president Abu Daud Pradhan unlocked the office.

When unlocking the office, he was seen saying the move was aimed at maintaining peace and preventing post-poll tension in the area.

He also assured leaders and activists of all parties to cooperate to ensure stability in the locality.

Later, a video of the incident circulated on social media, prompting mixed reactions from different aspects.

Local Awami League and it’s associate organization’s leaders expressed their satisfaction about this incident.

Confirming the information, Abu Daud Pradhan said that no Awami League’s political activities would be conducted from the office and that the premises would temporarily be used by local freedom fighters.

He urged leaders and activists of all parties to maintain discipline and law and order and vows to stop any wrongdoing.

He also said that the step was taken on his personal initiative, not as a party decision.
