Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has been elected by a landslide victory from Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria–Pekua) constituency.
According to the preliminary results from all 177 polling centres, Salahuddin Ahmed, contesting with Dhanershish (paddy sheaf) symbol, secured 220,566 votes. His nearest rival, Abdullah Al Farukh of the 11-party alliance, contesting with Daripalla (scale) symbol, obtained 124,726 votes.
The victory margin between the two candidates stands at 95,840 votes.
Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency comprises Chakaria and Pekua upazilas. The total number of voters in this constituency is 540,468, including 290,275 male and 250,192 female voters.
It may be mentioned that Salahuddin Ahmed was previously elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from this constituency in 6th, 7th and 8th National Parliamentary Elections. With this victory, he has been elected to parliament for the fourth time.
