UP member hacked in Barguna

A Union Parishad (UP) member was reportedly hacked and critically injured in Barguna’s Taltali upazila while returning home after casting his vote on Thursday afternoon.

The incident took place around 3:00 PM in Pajrabhangga area of the upazila.

The injured was identified as Ali Ahmed, a UP member of Ward No. 7 of Barbagi union in the upazila.

According to sources, Ali Ahmed was attacked by two individuals, Saidul and Riyad, while returning home after casting his vote at Kajiarkhal Government Primary School polling centre, leaving him seriously injured.

Later, locals rescued him in a bloodied condition and took him to Taltali Upazila Health Complex and later he was referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for advanced treatment, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Confirming the incident, Taltali Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Asadur Rahman said that legal action will be taken following investigation.

Following this incident, Assistant Returning Officer and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Zahidul Islam said that an administrative team was being dispatched to the area and necessary cooperation will be provided if the victim’s family files a complaint.
