Dhaka University (DU) and the ICT Division on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing students’ skills, promoting internships, developing soft skills and expanding employment opportunities.

The MoU was signed by DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan and ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury, NDC, on behalf of their respective institutions. The signing ceremony was organised by the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) at the Vice-Chancellor’s conference room.

Chief Adviser’s (CA) Special Assistant Faiz Ahmed Taiyab, DU Acting Registrar Munsi Shams Uddin Ahmad, DUCSU General Secretary (GS) SM Farhad, Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Muhammad Muhiuddin Khan, Career Development Secretary Md Mazharul Islam, Transport Secretary Md Asif Abdullah, DUCSU members, ICT Division Joint Secretaries Murtuza Julkar Nain Noman and Md Mojibor Rahman and a2i Joint Project Director Md Rashidul Mannaf Kabir were present at the event.

Under the MoU, computer laboratories will be established in all residential halls of Dhaka University, alongside skill development training programmes, international certification for selected courses, establishment of innovation hubs, internship opportunities at the ICT Division and the organisation of job fairs.

A joint committee comprising experts from both sides will be formed to oversee the implementation of these initiatives.

The MoU follows earlier discussions held on November 11, when the ICT Division and its Aspire to Innovate (a2i) programme organised a seminar titled “Enhancing Skill Development and Employment Opportunities for University Students” at the ICT Division.

Senior officials of the ICT Division and a2i, along with DUCSU representatives, participated in the seminar and discussed building effective partnerships to improve students’ skills and employability.

As part of this ongoing initiative, the MoU signing was held on Wednesday, along with the formal inauguration of a Nagorik Sheba at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University.
