Jamaat leader detained with huge cash at Saidpur Airport

Police have detained a local Jamaat leader with a huge amount of cash at Syedpur Airport on Wednesday (February 11).

The arrested individual has been identified as Belal Uddin, district ameer of Thakurgaon Jamaat-e-Islami.

Syedpur Airport Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Nazmul Alam confirmed the incident and said that Belal Uddin was detained around 12:00 noon with approximately Tk 50 lakh in cash. He added that the money was still being counted.
According to the OC, the detainee claimed that the cash was related to his business.

After being detained, Belal appeared in a video message in which he said the amount of money was around Tk 60 lakh, reiterating that it was business money.

Police said the matter is under investigation and further verification is underway to determine the source and purpose of the cash.
