BOGURA, Feb 10: A horrible political clash in Bogura's Nandigram upazila left at least three people seriously injured, while a mother reportedly died after hearing that her son had suffered a severe eye injury during the violence, according to local BNP leaders.

The incident took place around 11:30pm on Monday in Parshun village under Thaltha-Majhgram union, where supporters of rival political groups became involved in a confrontation following allegations of distributing money to influence votes ahead of the upcoming election.
Among the injured is Thaltha-Majhgram Union BNP president Masud Rana, also known as Majid, who sustained serious injuries to his eyes, party leaders said. BNP representatives claimed that his mother, Majeda Begum, suffered a fatal stroke on Tuesday morning after hearing about her son's condition.

According to local sources, two individuals were detained by BNP supporters on suspicion of vote-buying and taken to Masud Rana's residence before police were informed. Later at night, a large group of supporters of the detained persons reportedly arrived on motorcycles and started vandalism and clashes between the two sides.

Both BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami held separate press briefings at the Bogura Press Club on Tuesday, presenting conflicting versions of the incident. BNP leaders alleged that Jamaat activists attacked several houses and injured party members, while Jamaat candidate Dr. Mostafa Faisal Parvez denied the allegations, claiming their supporters were instead targeted by BNP activists.
