DU Sada Dal cuts ties with 7 faculty members

Dhaka University’s (DU) BNP-Jamaat-backed teachers’ organisation (Sada Dal) detached ties with 7 faculty members on Monday night.

This decision came after making objectionable and offensive statements and failing to respond to show-cause notices. Teachers are also barred from participating in any future activities of the organisation.

According to sources, several Sada Dal members made objectionable and offensive remarks against the organisation at a press conference organised by University Teachers Link (UTL) on September 27.

Following the incident, show-cause notices were issued asking why their membership should not be revoked. However, they did not respond to the notices and even ignored a special committee's invitation to present their statements orally.

Leadership further noted that Sada Dal held a press conference on Sunday clarifying its position on the upcoming national parliamentary elections.

Yet on Monday, UTL organised another press conference on the same topic, attended by some Sada Dal members alongside the previously mentioned teachers.

This demonstrated disregard for Sada Dal's decisions and alignment with an organisation that has no ties with Sada Dal.

Following a Sada Dal executive committee meeting held Monday, the organisation decided to sever all ties with seven faculty members for engaging in activities against party discipline.

Disunited faculty members are Professor Dr Muhammad Yusuf Ibn Hossain from Islamic Studies, Professor Dr Abu Sayem from World Religions and Culture, Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman from Arabic, Md Omar Faruk from Islamic History and Culture, Professor Dr Zubair Muhammad Ehsanul Haque from Arabic, Professor Dr HM Mosharraf Hossain from Finance, and Professor Dr AKM Yunus from Philosophy.

The decision was announced through a notice signed by Sada Dal convener Professor Dr Md Morshed Hasan Khan and joint conveners Professor Dr Abdus Salam and Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Sarkar.

Notice confirmed these teachers cannot participate in any Sada Dal activities in the future.
