The government has announced comprehensive financial and housing assistance for the family of Dipu Chandra Das, who was brutally lynched and burned to death in Mymensingh’s Bhaluka upazila on December 18, 2025.
Dipu Das was beaten by a mob, hung from a tree and later set on fire in the Square Masterbari area of Bhaluka over allegations that he made an insulting remark. The killing triggered nationwide outrage and condemnation.
As Dipu Das was the sole earning member of his family, the government has assured full financial support to ensure the family’s long-term security, including the construction of a permanent house.
According to the Chief Adviser’s press wing, Tk 25 lakh has been allocated for building a permanent home for the family through the National Housing Authority. The project will be implemented under the supervision of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Tarakanda, based on the family’s needs.
In addition, the government will provide Tk 10 lakh each in cash to Dipu Das’s father and wife. A fixed deposit receipt (FDR) worth Tk 5 lakh will also be created to secure the future of his child.
Following directives from Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, Education Adviser Dr CR Abrar visited the victim’s home on December 23, 2025, and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the government.
Speaking on Tuesday, Dr Abrar termed the killing a “brutal and inexcusable crime” and said such acts of violence have no place in society.
“No amount of state assistance can compensate for the loss of a human life. However, the government is fully committed to ensuring justice,” he said.
Describing the incident as a result of “communal hysteria,” he called it a shame for the nation, stressing that justice alone can help heal the collective trauma.
He reaffirmed that the state respects the peaceful right of all citizens—regardless of religion, ethnicity, or community—to express their opinions, provided it is done with mutual respect. “No one has the right to take the law into their own hands,” he added.
So far, 12 people directly involved in the incident have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing. The education adviser assured that all perpetrators would be brought to justice through due legal process.
