Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday emphasized that any disruption at polling stations during the upcoming national election will be dealt with firmly, as members of the armed forces will be allowed inside polling centers for the first time.
Speaking to reporters after a law-and-order briefing at Faridpur Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office, Lt Gen Jahangir said, “Any disruption at polling centers will be dealt with strictly. There will be no tolerance for anyone trying to obstruct the election.”
The meeting, which focused on election security, was attended by officials from five districts of Greater Faridpur, including representatives from the district administration, police, army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and election officers.
The Home Affairs Adviser assured that the overall law-and-order situation is under control and expressed confidence that the election would be peaceful.
“In Bangladesh’s history, no election has seen the deployment of so many law enforcement personnel. This election is being conducted more smoothly than ever before. I seek everyone’s prayers,” he added.
Addressing concerns regarding women wearing burqas at polling stations, Lt Gen Jahangir noted that the Election Commission has clarified the rules.
Female Ansar members will be present at each polling station to assist if necessary, ensuring that electoral procedures are carried out appropriately.
