BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday expressed confidence that the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and Referendum would be held without manipulation, saying he sees no threat of “election engineering” this time.
Fakhrul said government officials would carry out their duties responsibly, creating conditions for a credible and democratic vote.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at his residence in Thakurgaon on Tuesday.
Referring to BNP’s long political struggle, he said the party has spent the past 16 years working to restore democracy in the country.
“Our expectation from this election is the return of democratic governance. If the election is fair, it will open the door to meaningful state reforms,” he said, adding that the overall electoral environment remains favourable so far.
Fakhrul also said the recent visit of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to Thakurgaon had boosted party morale at the grassroots.
He reiterated that concerns over election manipulation would not affect the voting process. “I believe officials will fulfill their responsibilities properly. I do not see any risk of engineering in this election,” he added.
Responding to a question about rival parties, the BNP leader said he does not view them as weak, noting that some groups adopt different campaign strategies and spread misinformation. “We are committed to positive politics,” he said.
Calling on voters, Fakhrul urged people to exercise their franchise freely. “Vote for the candidate of your choice, but ensure that everyone participates in the election,” he said.
