Shamim, Lisa claim singles titles at Ananda-DRU Badminton

The Ananda-DRU Badminton Tournament 2026 concluded in a festive atmosphere on Monday at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in Paltan, marking a fitting finale to one of the Dhaka Reporters Unity's flagship sporting events.

Final matches in men's singles, women's singles and men's doubles were held on the closing day. In the men's singles event, Shamim Ahmed of Bangladesh Pratidin emerged champion, defeating Sabbir Ahmed of Star News, while Tarikul Islam Masum of Channel i finished third.

The women's singles crown once again belonged to Maksuda Lisa of Daily Voice of Asia, who secured her sixth consecutive title. Zahida Parvez Chhanda of international news agency Pressenger was runner-up, with Taskina Yasmin of Bangladesh Kantha placing third.

In men's doubles, the Channel i and Star News pairing of Tarikul Islam Masum and Sabbir Ahmed claimed the title. Shamim Ahmed and Zakir Hossain of Ajkaler Khobor finished runners-up, while Zainal Abedin (Kaler Kantha) and Sohel Hossain Patwary (Daily Sun) took third place.

Bangladesh Olympic Association Secretary General Zobairur Rahman Rana, along with Bridge Pharmaceuticals Limited Director Mir Shahidul Haque, presented prizes. Speakers highlighted the need for grassroots training and corporate backing to advance badminton nationally.
