Islami Andolon Bangladesh has announced its support for Sarjis Alam, the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance nominated candidate in Panchagarh-1 constituency, as the party has no candidate of its own in the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

A district committee leader confirmed the decision on Monday afternoon, following a meeting between Islami Andolon leaders and Sarjis Alam.

Local leaders said the support was given in the interest of principled and people-oriented politics, noting SarjisAlam's role as a leader of the July uprising in 2024.

They pledged to work spontaneously for his "Shapla Koli (water lily bud)" symbol. After the meeting, Islami Andolon activists were seen campaigning for Sarjis Alam on social media.

NCP district committee organizing secretary Shishir Asad welcomed the support, saying, "We want a peaceful and acceptable election with the backing of people from all walks of life."
