Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman on Monday pledged to create one crore jobs across the country within five years if his party comes to power, outlining an ambitious plan to tackle unemployment, boost investment, and develop skilled manpower.

Speaking at a public rally on Pirzangi Mazar Road in Dhaka-8 constituency, Tarique said job creation would be a top priority of a BNP-led government. He later handed over the party’s election symbol, the sheaf of paddy, to BNP candidate Mirza Abbas and urged local voters to ensure his victory.

Addressing the gathering, Tarique said unemployment among young people remains a major challenge not only in Dhaka-8 but across the country. “To address this crisis, BNP has formulated comprehensive plans and programs. Over the next five years, we will create employment opportunities for 10 million people,” he said.
He said BNP would encourage domestic and foreign investors, establish new factories and industries, and expand vocational, technical, and IT-based training institutions nationwide. “From Dhaka-8 to every district, we will set up vocational, training, technological, and IT institutes to gradually develop our youth—both men and women—into skilled citizens. This will enable them to create jobs for themselves through entrepreneurship and investment,” Tarique said.

He also highlighted plans to facilitate overseas employment, noting that around 15 million Bangladeshis currently work abroad. Tarique said many aspiring migrant workers are forced to sell ancestral land due to financial constraints. “We will ensure that no young worker has to sell family land to go abroad. The government will provide easy-term loans, which they can repay gradually from their earnings overseas,” he said.

Outlining broader welfare measures, Tarique said BNP would introduce family cards, agriculture cards, and improved healthcare services, alongside honorariums for imams, muezzins, and religious leaders of all faiths. He also pledged to strengthen law and order, ensure public safety, and curb corruption.

For Dhaka-8, Tarique promised the construction of playgrounds, allocation of land for graveyards, and effective measures to resolve waterlogging.

Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee Member and Dhaka-8 candidate Mirza Abbas warned against what he described as attempts at “vote engineering” to manipulate election outcomes. “After 17 years of struggle, repression, enforced disappearances, and killings, people are ready to exercise their voting rights. We will not allow any group to hijack the election process,” he said, urging supporters to safeguard polling centers.

Later the same day, addressing an election rally at Basabo Tarun Sangha ground in support of Dhaka-9 BNP candidate Habibur Rashid Habib, Tarique said only BNP has the experience and credibility to tackle corruption, restore law and order, and govern effectively.

He said BNP’s past record demonstrates its capacity to fight corruption, citing the independence and effectiveness of the Anti-Corruption Commission during the tenure of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. “If we want to free the country from the corruption of the last 16 years, only BNP has the experience and determination to do so,” Tarique said.

He also recalled improvements in public safety and business conditions during previous BNP governments, stating that women could move freely and businesses could operate without fear.

Tarique further promised infrastructure development in the Basabo area, including road and culvert upgrades, hospital renovation and construction, and comprehensive waterlogging mitigation.

He concluded by saying that among all parties contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections, BNP alone has proven experience in running the state and delivering effective governance.
