The Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners Association has said that long-route buses will operate across the country on February 11, one day before the national election.
On Sunday (February 8), the association's president, Ramesh Chandra Ghosh, confirmed the matter to the media.
Regarding bus operations on election day, the owners' association said that most long-distance bus services may remain temporarily suspended that day. Although, there is no legal restriction on bus operations, the situation may arise because the majority of transport sector workers have requested leave to cast their votes.
There is a possibility that services will resume in full swing on the same night after the voting process is completed. Although the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has imposed certain restrictions on vehicular movement in line with Election Commission directives, necessary relaxations have been kept in place for long-distance bus services.
The ministry has also issued restrictions on taxis, pickups, minibuses and trucks for 24 hours on February 12. Motorcycles will face a 72-hour ban from midnight February 10 to midnight February 13.
