Dhaka University (DU) will remain closed for four days between February 11-14 for the upcoming 13th National Parliament election and referendum.
University administration announced this on Thursday through official notice. Notice reads, classes and offices will be closed on February 11-12 due to a government-declared public holiday through executive order for the 13th National Parliament election and referendum.
Students will enjoy a straight four-day break as February 13-14 (Friday and Saturday) fall on weekly holidays.
Closure means students will have an extended break to participate in the electoral process or travel to their home constituencies to cast their votes in the general election.
13th National Parliament election and referendum are scheduled to take place on February 12, prompting the government to declare public holidays on the preceding and polling days to facilitate voter participation across the country.
Universities and educational institutions typically observe closures during national elections to allow students and staff to exercise their voting rights. The timing of the weekly holidays immediately following the election days provides students with additional time to return to campus after voting.
