Alleging foreign interference in the electoral process and accusing state institutions of undermining a level playing field, NCP convener Nahid Islam and Jamaat-NCP alliance candidate Ariful Islam vowed on Wednesday to resist "Indian hegemony," protect women's rights, and pursue fundamental state reforms ahead of the upcoming polls.
Speaking during an election campaign event in Malibagh, Dhaka, Nahid Islam claimed neighbouring countries were actively conspiring over the elections.
"Diplomats from neighbouring countries are making various comments. India supported Awami League's previous rigged elections. This time too, they are conspiring over the elections," he alleged.
Nahid Islam also criticised sections of the media for biased coverage and accused the Election Commission of regulatory failures. "The media is giving priority to only one party," he said.
Meanwhile, Ariful Islam, addressing a women's rally organised by the women's wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami near Mollartek Central Jame Mosque, outlined initiatives to improve women's security and mobility. He promised special transport services for women, installation of CCTV cameras in public transport, and construction of hygienic public toilets in different areas.
