Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has pledged to foster communal harmony and end tensions between the Hill (indigenous) and Bengali communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts if voted into power.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made the announcement on Wednesday at the party’s election manifesto unveiling at Hotel Sheraton in Dhaka's Banani.
He said, “There has been unrest in the hill regions and we do not want this conflict to continue. If Jamaat-e-Islami forms the government, we will take appropriate measures to address the issue and end the friction between the hill and Bengali communities.”
Ahead of 13th national parliamentary elections, the Jamaat chief presented the party’s 41-point election manifesto, officially unveiling the document later during the event.
The manifesto, titled ‘People’s Manifesto’, emphasizes state reform, good governance and building a self-reliant Bangladesh.
