School student shot dead during clash between two groups

A school student was killed after being shot in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district during a clash between two groups of villagers over establishing dominance.

Deceased Mustakim Miah, 14, was son of expatriate Masud Rana and a student of class VII.

According to police and local sources, two rival groups in the char area of Saidabad have long been involved in a dispute over dominance. Several clashes had occurred in the past over the issue.

One group is led by Hanif Master, while the other group is led by Ershad Miah. As sequel to that, followers of Ershad Miah allegedly attacked the houses of Hanif Master’s supporters on Wednesday morning with lethal weapons and firearms, resulted a clash between the two groups.

During the confrontation, Masum, also known as China, nephew of former Union Parishad member Firoz Mia from the Ershad group, opened fire. As a result, student Mustakim, who was standing in the courtyard of his house, was shot and died on the spot.

At least 10 people from both sides were injured in the clash.

As the panic gripped the area, police Army and BGB members are on the scene to avert further clash.
