The Election Commission (EC) has granted BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman a slot to deliver a televised speech on Bangladesh Television (BTV) on 9 February, ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum scheduled for 12 February.
The EC issued the directive in a letter signed by its Public Relations Director Md Ruhul Amin Mallik to the BTV Director General on Tuesday.
The commission said ensuring a level playing field and a balanced election environment is crucial for a free, fair and acceptable election.
It added that providing equal opportunities for all candidates to campaign through BTV is an important part of this effort.
The EC instructed BTV to allocate campaign slots for party leaders according to the order of applications, following Rule 6(g) of the National Parliament Election Code of Conduct, 2025.
The duration of the speech and the recording schedule will be finalised in consultation with the concerned party.
The EC noted that no other political party has applied for a campaign slot on BTV so far.
Since BNP submitted its application, the commission has asked BTV to arrange the final slot on 9 February for Tarique Rahman.
The EC also said that if other parties apply, they will be given opportunities in due course.
