A local BNP leader, shot in Keraniganj on the outskirts of Dhaka, died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Saturday.
Hasan Mollah, general secretary of Hazratpur Union BNP, passed away around 4:00 pm, police confirmed.
The incident occurred on Thursday after 9:00 pm, when assailants shot Hasan in front of the party office in Jagannathpur village and fled the scene.
Hasan's younger brother, Rakib Hossain, said his brother had no personal disputes with anyone.
"He was the general secretary of Hazratpur Union BNP and had been engaged in election-related work," he said.
Rakib described the events leading to the shooting: "On Thursday night, after attending a religious gathering (waz mahfil), Hasan was returning home. Near his house, two men on a motorcycle shot him. The bullet struck the right side of his abdomen."
Hasan was initially taken to a local hospital, but as his condition worsened, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he later died.
Keraniganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam confirmed Hasan's death and said the body would be handed over to the family after an autopsy on Sunday.
