
CHATTOGRAM, Jan 24: In view of the 13th national parliament election, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has directed all police members to discharge their duties with utmost professionalism, caution and complete impartiality. At the same time, he called upon them to work diligently to protect the lives and property of the people by further strengthening people-friendly policing.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at an important pre-election meeting organized on the occasion of the 13th National Parliament elections at the Civic Centre of Chittagong District Police Lines on Saturday with the participation of police officers and force members.
He said that the use of body-worn cameras should be ensured while discharging duties, which will increase transparency and accountability in police activities.
He also said that in any situation surrounding the upcoming elections, one should perform duties with patience and professional behaviour and the police services expected by the people should be delivered to their doorsteps easily and effectively.
At this time, all units were called upon to perform their election duties with discipline, responsibility and professionalism in light of the IGP's directions.
In the meeting, officers and force members of different levels of the police presented various demands and proposals highlighting the real challenges of the election period.
These included the provision of speed boats for island police stations, loan facilities for purchasing motorcycles, introduction and increase of island allowance and increase of government benefits for those in charge of the election period.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz, Additional IGP and DIG of Chittagong Range Md. Ahsan Habib Palash and Chittagong District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan spoke as special guests at the meeting.
Among others, senior officers of 29 units under the Chittagong Division including the Chittagong Range Office, Chittagong Metropolitan Police and a total of 458 officers and force members of various ranks were present on the occasion.
