A Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader, who was shot in Keraniganj on Thursday, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Holy Family Hospital in Dhaka on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Hasan Molla, 42, general secretary of Hazratpur union unit of BNP.
Keraniganj Model Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Saiful Alam confirmed that Hasan’s condition worsened on Friday night, leading to his transfer from Dhaka Medical College Hospital to Holy Family Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The attack occurred around 9:15 PM on Thursday in front of BNP office in ward no. 9 of Jagannathpur village.
Eyewitnesses said several unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on Hasan Molla and fled the scene.
Critically wounded, he was first admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 11:00 PM before being shifted for further treatment.
No arrests have been made and no case has been filed in connection with the attack, police said.
