Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has stated his party remains committed to carrying forward the ideals of July martyrs and pledged to work for a corruption-free, discrimination-free and justice-based Bangladesh.
Speaking on Saturday after visiting the grave of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, regarded as the first martyr of the July movement, in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur, Shafiqur Rahman said the martyrs had dreamed of an independent country founded on justice and equality.
He said Jamaat-e-Islami has adopted those aspirations as its own and is united in its resolve to turn them into reality.
He said the party is prepared to make sacrifices similar to those made by the martyrs and would not compromise with injustice, even at great personal cost. Shafiqur Rahman added that if Jamaat-e-Islami is able to form a government, it would strive to fulfil the aspirations symbolised by Abu Sayed’s sacrifice.
Following the grave visit, the Jamaat chief met Abu Sayed’s parents and other family members, offering condolences and expressing solidarity. He also demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible for the killing.
Later, while briefing reporters, Shafiqur Rahman said Jamaat-e-Islami has consistently stood by the people during times of crisis and would continue to do so in the future. He said the party’s commitment to public welfare remains unchanged regardless of circumstances.
The Jamaat leader then proceeded with his election campaign, joining a rally in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha in the morning. According to his schedule, he was also set to address rallies in Bogura town, Sherpur upazila of Bogura, Sirajganj town and Ullapara upazila later in the day.
His second day of campaigning is expected to conclude with a public rally in Pabna district in the evening, where he will campaign in support of Jamaat-e-Islami and alliance-backed candidates.
