Islami Andolan leader killed as truck runs him over in Kushtia

A leader of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) was killed and one of his associates injured when a mini-truck ran over them in Kushtia's Kumarkhali upazila on Friday night.

The accident occurred around 10PM at Fultola area of the Kushtia-Rajbari regional highway.

Deceased Abdur Razzak Badsha, 48, was the owner of Al-Madina Sweet Store near Kumarkhali bus stand and served as the president of IAB's Jagannathpur Union unit.Injured Mufti Khairul Bashar is one of his associate.

According to police, witnesses and locals, Badsha was riding a motorcycle with his associate to visit the residence of IAB candidate Anwar Khan in Khoksha, Kushtia-4 constituency, when a mini-truck carrying potatoes was approaching in the same direction. While attempting to overtake the truck near Fultola, Badsha lost control, fell onto the road, and was crushed under the vehicle. The truck driver fled the scene with his vehicle.
Bashar sustained minor injuries and is out of danger.

Local resident Kazi Saiful said Badsha was heading to meet a candidate when the accident occurred.

Anwar Khan, IAB candidate for Kushtia-4, said he had talked to Badsha shortly before the incident.

Kumarkhali Police Station OC Jamal Uddin confirmed the death.
