At least nine supporters of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami candidates were injured during a clash at Ullapara upazila in Sirajganj district on Thursday, on the opening day of election campaigning.

The identities of the injured are yet to be known.

According to sources, the confrontation occurred in Tetulia village under the Sirajganj-4 (Ullapara) constituency when a verbal argument between the two groups escalated into a physical altercation.

Supporters from both sides chased one another, and several private cars and motorcycles belonging to Jamaat supporters were vandalized.

Ullapara Model Police Station officer-in-charge (OC-Investigation) Rupkar said that police responded promptly, restoring order and have increased patrolling in the area to prevent further incidents.

He also said that legal action will be taken if formal complaints are lodged regarding the clash.
