Dhaka University’s (DU) Jagannath Hall will host Saraswati Puja on Friday with 76 pandals arranged across its field, including a central pandal organised by the hall administration, as students from 74 departments and institutes prepare for the two-day religious celebration.

Hall Provost Debashish Pal announced the preparations in a notice issued Thursday, stating that the event will feature flower offerings (Pushpanjali), distribution of Prasad, a cultural evening, and a blood donation programme. Hall will also host rides, games, and food stalls serving hygienic snacks for visitors, particularly children.

The notice stated that the Jagannath Hall administration has been working under the supervision of Dhaka University's Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellors for Administration and Academics, Treasurer, and Proctor to ensure security throughout the premises, from the central pandal to the entire campus.

Administration has received manpower and technical support from Dhaka Metropolitan Police, National Security Intelligence (NSI), Shahbagh Police Station, and the Fire Service for the occasion.

Preparations are being carried out with respect for the religious rituals, traditions, beliefs, and values of the Sanatan community, according to the notice. The Jagannath Hall Student Council and other student representatives have provided full cooperation.

Large instruction boards detailing important guidelines have been placed at all entry points and near the worship area to ensure visitors can safely view the idols and children can enjoy recreational activities. The entire hall will be monitored by CCTV cameras, with metal detectors installed at entrances.

Other safety measures include a special safe corner for infants and toddlers, prohibition of fireworks, and special vehicle stickers issued to manage traffic. A fire drill involving students, teachers, staff, and the Fire Service has been successfully conducted.

Notice emphasised that Jagannath Hall has historically been sensitive to all religious and cultural traditions. The administration promotes equality and non-discrimination across all faiths, aiming to build an inclusive, humane, and sustainable society.

Through this Puja, Jagannath Hall welcomes people from all religions, beliefs and social backgrounds. The event is expected to become a celebration of unity and harmony, with the presence of well-wishers inspiring the hall family further.
