US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen paid a courtesy call on National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman at his office on Thursday afternoon.
Dr Rahman welcomed Ambassador Christensen, congratulating him on his appointment as the new American envoy to Bangladesh and recalled his significant contributions to strengthening bilateral relations during his previous posting in Dhaka and his service in various roles within the US government in Washington, DC.
He expressed optimism that Bangladesh–US relations would further deepen during the ambassador’s current tenure.
The hour-long meeting covered a range of issues related to bilateral ties, including the reciprocal tariff agreement, support for Rohingya refugees, immigration matters such as visa bonds and the repatriation of undocumented Bangladeshi nationals from the United States, American trade and investment in Bangladesh and regional issues of mutual interest.
Ambassador Christensen reaffirmed strong US support for Bangladesh’s democratic transition and praised the interim government’s initiatives concerning the forthcoming elections and comprehensive reform agenda.
Political and Economic Counsellor of US Embassy in Dhaka, Eric Geelan, was also present at the meeting.
