Relatives of a patient assaulted intern doctors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital following her death in the Medicine Department.
After the incident, the intern doctors suspended medical services in the hospital's emergency department and several wards.
Additional law enforcement agencies were deployed on the hospital premises soon after the incident which happened at about 1:20AM. Tension is prevailing there.
According to intern doctor Shihab, relatives of a patient beat up Dr Touhid, Dr Bappi and Dr Nayeem following her death. Two of the attackers were detained and handed over to the police.
The hospital gates have been locked and medical services suspended. The gates will remain closed until the hospital director arrives, he added.Confirming the attack incident, the DMCH police outpost in-charge inspector Md Farruq said a fisticuffs ensued between the patient's relatives and the doctors. Two of the attackers handed over to Shahbagh Police Station.
Several attempts were made to contact the hospital director Brig Gen Md Asaduzzaman for comments on the matter, but he did not respond.
