BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has launching his election campaign for the party's 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol in the 13th National Parliamentary Election from his in-laws' home in Sylhet.

At midnight on Wednesday (January 22), the BNP chief formally inaugurated the party’s electioneering and public outreach campaign in an emotional atmosphere at his in-laws’ residence in Birahimpur, South Surma of Sylhet.

Addressing the gathering, he said, ''Just as Dr. Zubaida is your daughter, I am also your son. I leave you with my request that on the 12th February, the 'Sheaf of Paddy' emerges win from here. I take this pledge from you.''

Noting that many people from Sylhet live abroad, Tarique said, ''We will arrange advanced training centres in every district so that our youth can become skilled and go abroad.''

''If they work as skilled people with good salaries, more remittances will come to the country, and the country’s economy will develop.''
Earlier after reaching Sylhet at 8PM, he visited the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA). He was accompanied by his wife Zubaida Rahman, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other senior party leaders.

Around 11:30PM, he set off for his in-laws’ residence at Birainpur in Silam and reached there around 1AM.

Biraimpur village falls under the Sylhet-3 constituency, where BNP has nominated MA Malek, former president of the now-dissolved UK BNP committee.
