Transcom CEO granted bail after arrest warrant

A court has granted bail to Transcom Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Prothom Alo owner, Simeen Rahman and her mother Shahnaz Rahman in a case filed over embezzlement of the group’s shares through forged signatures and fake stamps.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order following a hearing on Wednesday, said defence lawyer Siddiq Ullah.

Earlier in the morning, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah’s court took cognisance of the charge sheet against six accused in the case.

However, as Simeen Rahman, her mother Shahnaz Rahman and Transcom Group director Shamsuzzaman Patwari were absent from the court, arrest warrants were issued against them.

Court sources said that among the six accused, Transcom Group directors Md Kamrul Hasan, Md Mosaddek and Abu Yusuf Md Siddiq were present in court.
