Popular Bangladeshi film actor and prominent choreographer Ilias Javed died on Wednesday after a prolonged battle with illness.

He breathed his last at his residence this morning at the age of 82, family sources said.

Javed's wife, Dolly Chowdhury, told reporters that the ailing actor was taken home from hospital recently, where he continued his treatment. But the physical condition deteriorated severely this morning.

He is survived by his wife and a host of relatives, well-wishers and admirers to mourn his death.

The body of Javed will be taken later at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) so that his admirers can pay their last respects to him. His namaz-e-janaza will be held on the BFDC premises after Asr prayers on Wednesday.

Actor Javed made his debut in the film industry at the age of 14 with the Urdu movie 'Naya Zindagi', but the film was not released.

After working in a few movies, Mustafiz's Urdu movie 'Payel', released on January 30 in 1970, brought him widespread recognition.

At the same time, the Bangla film 'Nupur' became super hit. Javed's presence in this movie with Nayak Raj Razzak and Shabana won the hearts of the audience.

Much later, in 1964, his first film, 'Naya Zindagi', was released. After it, he acted in more than 200 films. He acted in movies until the nineties.

The actor was born in Peshawar (Pakistan) in British India in 1944.
