BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said the Election Commission (EC) has been working competently so far.
Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of his 90th birth anniversary at Zia Udyan in the capital, Fakhrul said the BNP believes the Commission will be able to conduct the upcoming 13th National Parliament election in a competent manner.
Replying to questions about BNP's stance on various EC decisions and activities, including the cancellation of party candidatures and the postal ballot issue, he said some problems tend to arise when the Commission makes such decisions. "This is not new," he said, adding that overall, the Election Commission has so far been working competently and fairly.
He said BNP had raised its concerns with the EC the previous day and reiterated the party's confidence that the Commission would be able to conduct the election properly.
Asked about allegations of a lack of a level playing field at the grassroots level, Fakhrul said the BNP has no such complaints.
