The moon for the holy month of Shabaan of Hijri 1447 was not sighted anywhere in Bangladesh on Monday. As a result, Tuesday, January 20, will mark the completion of 30 days of the month of Rajab, and the month of Shabaan will begin on Wednesday, January 21. Accordingly, the sacred night of Shab-e-Barat will be observed across the country on the night of Tuesday, February 3.
The decision was announced on Monday evening at a meeting of the National Moon-Sighting Committee held at the Baitul Mokarram conference hall under the Islamic Foundation. The meeting was chaired by Md. Kamal Uddin, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the foundation said in a press release.
According to the statement, the committee reviewed information from all district administrations, the headquarters of the Islamic Foundation, its divisional and district offices, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARSO) before finalizing the decision.
