Police have requested a 10-day remand for the alleged serial killer ‘Mohiur Rahman Khan Samrat’ accused of six murders over the past seven months, including five killings at the abandoned Savar Municipal Community Center.

The 35-year-old Samrat, resident from Bank Colony in Savar, was reportedly a wanderer who roamed different areas around Savar. He was arrested on Sunday afternoon by the Detective Branch (DB) from Savar Municipal area.

According to police, CCTV footage showed Samrat carrying a body on his shoulder, which led police to his capture. During interrogation, Samrat admitted to five murders at the community center as well as the killing of an elderly man near the Savar Model Mosque.

Police official added that despite being homeless, Samrat showed no signs of mental instability during questioning. Investigations are ongoing to determine if others were involved in the murders. While the identity of one of the six victims has been confirmed, the remaining five are still unidentified. Authorities are working to establish their identities.

The request was confirmed by Dhaka District Additional Police Superintendent (Crime, OPS & Traffic) Arafatul Islam at a press conference on Monday.

Savar Model police station officers, including officer-in-charge (OC) Arman Ali and OC Operations Helal Uddin, were present at the press conference.

Earlier on Sunday, police received a 999 call reporting two bodies at the abandoned community center and the series of murders came to light.

Later, police officials recovered two charred bodies from the second floor, which were sent for autopsy.

A murder case has been filed in connection with the incident, and CCTV cameras installed in the building helped identify the suspect.
