JASHORE, Jan 19: A two-day training programme on election period journalism, initiated by the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), has commenced in Jashore.
The training began on Sunday at the Jashore PTI auditorium, with a total of 50 journalists from Jashore and Narail districts participating.
This training will include detailed discussions on the challenges and responsibilities of election period journalism, election-related laws and policies, reporting strategies, and the physical and digital security of journalists.
On the first day of the training, registration and introduction took place from 9 am to 10 am. Harun Jamil, Executive Editor of Dhaka Mail, facilitated introductions and provided orientation on the training to the participating journalists.
A session from 10 am to 11 am discussed the roles of stakeholders in elections, including political parties, civil society, administration and law enforcement, election observers, and the media.
A session titled 'Ganabot-2026: Desher Chabi Apnar Hate' highlighted the importance of elections and voting rights. Concurrently, discussions were held on electoral law violations, irregularities and offences, the Representation of the People Order-1972, and its amendments.
In another session, Harun Jamil conducted detailed discussions on responsibilities and duties in electoral management and the Political Parties and Candidates' Code of Conduct-2025.
The formal inauguration of the first day was declared by Jahida Hasan Tukkun, President of Jashore Press Club. Overall coordination was managed by SM Tawhidur Rahman, General Secretary of Jashore Press Club.
Additionally, PIB trainer Zilhas Uddin Nipun participated in the training.
