Cumilla, Jan 19: The Election Commission (EC) has dismissed an appeal filed by a Jamaat-e-Islami-nominated candidate challenging the candidacy of BNP Vice-Chairman and former minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, clearing the way for his participation in the upcoming national election in Cumilla-3 (Muradnagar).

The appeal was filed by Jamaat-backed candidate Yusuf Sohel, who alleged dual citizenship and sought to invalidate Kaikobad's nomination. After hearings held over two days on January 17 and 18, the EC rejected the appeal, citing a lack of evidence to substantiate the allegations. As a result, Kaikobad's nomination has been upheld.

Reacting to the decision, BNP candidate Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad said the outcome reflected divine will.
