Bangladeshi triathlete Yasir Ibne Yusuf successfully completed the Ironman 70.3 race held in Langkawi, Malaysia, on November 1 the previous year.
The event, now in its 10th edition, featured the half-distance Ironman “70.3”, which requires athletes to complete a 1.9-kilometre swim, a 90-kilometre cycling segment, and a 21.1-kilometre run within a time limit of eight and a half hours.
Yasir, a manager at mobile financial service provider upay, finished the gruelling race in 7 hours, 48 minutes and 45 seconds. Competing in the 35–39 age group, he ranked 58th, while securing 483rd position overall among all participants.
Balancing an intensive professional career with preparation for the competition proved challenging, but he remained committed to his training regimen.
For six months, he followed a strict daily routine that began at dawn, completing training sessions before heading to work.
He received sponsorship support from United Commercial Bank PLC, upay, Lotto Bangladesh Ltd and Atlas Sourcing Ltd. He expressed gratitude to his sponsors for their encouragement and assistance throughout his journey.
His achievement highlights the growing presence of Bangladeshi athletes in international endurance events and serves as an inspiration for aspiring triathletes in the country.
