Police recovered the throat-slit body of a woman from a flat in the Kalachandpur area of Gulshan early on Sunday.
The body was found around 12:30 AM at a second-floor apartment of house No 89 in the West Kalachandpur Pakka Mosque area.
The deceased was identified as Sadia Rahman Mim, 27, a resident of Mushuddi West Para in Dhanbari upazila of Tangail. Police said she worked as a bar dancer and also ran a beauty parlour in the Kalachandpur area.
Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Raunak Alam said the body bore multiple injury marks in addition to the fatal cut to her throat.
He said preliminary findings suggest that Mim shared the flat with another young woman, who has not been traced since the body was recovered.
According to the inquest report prepared by Gulshan Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Maruf Ahmed, the killing may have taken place at any time between Friday afternoon and 9:00 PM on Saturday. The report said autopsy doctors have been asked to determine whether the victim was sexually assaulted before the murder.
The body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
Police said a detailed investigation is under way to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
