Chief coordinator of the government's referendum campaign Ali Riaz on Saturday said the July National Charter was written not in ink but "in blood and lives," expressing hope that following its roadmap would lead the country toward a new Bangladesh. He also said a referendum is being organized to seek the people's decision on the future course outlined in the July Charter. "I hope we will succeed in this effort. We will achieve success and will certainly be able to take Bangladesh toward a new Bangladesh," he said.

Ali Riaz, who also served as the special assistant to the Chief Adviser, made the remarks while speaking at an exchange of views and Imam conference with Dhaka divisional officials on the referendum, held at the BIAM Foundation auditorium in Eskaton on Saturday afternoon.

Referring to his role as vice-chair of the National Consensus Commission, Ali Riaz said the July National Charter, which people see printed in black letters, was in fact written with drops of blood and at the cost of lives.
