Tarique meets British, Nepalese, and Bhutanese envoys

British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cook, Nepalese Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari, and Bhutanese Ambassador Daso Karma Hamu Dorji paid courtesy calls on Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday, January 17.

The meetings were held at the BNP Chairman's political office in Gulshan, focusing on the current political situation in Bangladesh, the upcoming national elections, and matters related to bilateral cooperation.

After the meetings, BNP Joint Secretary General and member of the party chairman's Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee, Humayun Kabir, spoke to journalists. He said that during the meeting, High Commissioner Sarah Cook expressed a positive view of the current election environment in Bangladesh.

Humayun Kabir added that Sarah Cook emphasized that if Tarique Rahman were to become Prime Minister in the future, the United Kingdom would aim to continue development cooperation, maintain friendly relations, and expand bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh.

 

 


He also noted that the British High Commissioner reiterated the UK's long-standing support for free, fair, and peaceful elections in the country.

Several senior BNP leaders were present at the meeting, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Joint Secretary General Humayun Kabir.

Earlier on Saturday, the Nepalese and Bhutanese ambassadors paid separate courtesy calls on Tarique Rahman before the meeting with the British High Commissioner.
