EC restores 44 more candidacies on 8th day of appeals

Election Commission (EC) on Saturday reinstated the candidacies of 44 more aspirants on the eighth day of hearings on appeals against returning officers’ decisions over nomination papers for the 13th parliamentary election.

With the latest approvals, nearly 400 candidates have so far regained eligibility to contest the upcoming national polls.

According to the EC, a total of 112 appeals were heard during the day. Of these, 45 were accepted, 37 were rejected and 19 remained pending.

In addition, nine appeals were withdrawn, while applicants in two cases were absent from the hearings.
