Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali on Saturday stressed the importance of imparting ethical education and moral values to children alongside academic learning, saying a developed nation cannot be built without morally sound citizens.

Speaking at Scholarship-2024 award ceremony for meritorious children of DMP members at Bangladesh Police Auditorium in the capital's Rajarbagh, the commissioner urged police personnel to practise moral values themselves and instil the same in their children from an early age.

At the ceremony, scholarships were awarded to 517 students in various categories to recognise and encourage academic excellence.

Addressing the award recipients, Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali highlighted the growing importance of technical education in meeting modern demands and underscored the need for proficiency in English language.

He added that becoming good human beings would be the greatest source of pride for their parents.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Additional Director General (Admin) Faruk Ahmed, speaking as a special guest, described the DMP’s scholarship initiative as a commendable effort.

He said the progress of any society or state depends on the development of quality human resources and that no advanced social system can be established without ideal individuals.

Faruk Ahmed expressed hope that the scholarships would inspire the students to grow into responsible and patriotic citizens, noting that such qualities would be the true measure of their success.

A student representative thanked DMP on behalf of the scholarship recipients, describing the programme as a privilege and expressing gratitude for the initiative.

Deputy Police Commissioner (Headquarters and Administration) Md Amir Khasru delivered the welcome address.

DMP, one of the largest police units in the country, introduced the scholarship programme in 2017 to support and encourage the education of children of its serving members.
