Bangladesh Bank has instructed all bankers who will get responsibility for parliamentary elections to register to vote on postal ballot.
They have been asked to complete this registration immediately after appointed to electoral duties. Instructions in this regard were sent to all banks on Thursday.
A government circular said voters assigned to electoral duties among bank officials and employees to vote on IT-supported postal ballot in the national elections and referendums have been advised to complete registration on 'Postal Vote BD' app immediately after being appointed.
In addition to government employees assigned to voting duties, members of the law enforcement agencies, expatriate Bangladeshis and prisoners will get opportunity to vote on postal ballots.
Although the elections are scheduled for February 12, voting on postal ballots will have to be done between January 21 and 25. For this, more than 1.5 million voters have already registered. Of these, 761,000 live in the country.
Advance ballots will be sent to the addresses of those registered for postal ballots. Voters in the country will have to return the ballots through Bangladesh Postal Department and expatriates through the postal department respectively.
Failure to do so will result in the vote being invalidated. All postal ballots will have a separate QR code and tracking system.
