JASHORE, Jan 17: Jashore District police on Friday carried out a robust, coordinated operation at five key points in the town to maintain law and order situation ahead of the upcoming national election.

The two-hour-long drive, conducted from 5pm to 7pm, was led on the ground by Jashore Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Rafiqul Islam.

Police set up simultaneous check-posts at Chanchra check-post, Monihar Mor, Charkhamba Mor, Dharmatala Mor and the New Market area, where intensive search and checking operations were carried out.

During the operation, police searched a total of 1,475 vehicles. As part of the drive, 30 motorcycles were seized and 35 cases were filed for violations of traffic rules and breaches of law and order.

Motorcycles, private cars, microbuses and other vehicles were stopped and checked for valid documents. Special attention was given to motorcyclists riding without helmets, using hydraulic horns and driving at excessive speeds. Police maintained strict vigilance against reckless riding, which officials say has been contributing to public insecurity in the town.

Notably, the checking process was applied uniformly. No exemptions were made for anyone, including police personnel or journalists, reflecting what officials described as the impartial and strict nature of the operation.

Speaking about the operation, SP Syed Rafiqul Islam said the initiative was undertaken to prevent any form of disorder, violence or criminal activity in Jashore district ahead of the election.

"Teenage gangs and young criminals are increasingly using motorcycles to engage in various criminal activities. The use of hydraulic horns and excessive speed has been creating panic among city residents," he said, adding that such activities would be dealt with firmly.

He also said similar operations would continue in the coming days to ensure a safe and orderly environment during the election period.

Police officials said the operation aimed to strengthen public confidence and ensure compliance with traffic laws, while sending a clear message that violations would not be tolerated as the country moves closer to the national polls.
