Inqilab Moncho to hold ‘Hadi rally’ next week

Inqilab Moncho will hold a mass gathering, titled ‘Hadi Rally,’ next week, demanding justice for the killing of its spokesperson, Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi.

The announcement came during a protest at the Raju Sculpture on Dhaka University campus, where members and supporters of the platform gathered after Friday prayers.

The rally began with a procession from the university’s central mosque and concluded with a brief gathering at the sculpture, where participants chanted slogans demanding justice for Hadi.

Speaking at the event, Inqilab Moncho member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber said the rally is expected to draw over a lakh of participants and send a clear message that those acting against Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty will not go unpunished.

He urged the interim government to disclose details of the investigation, including the identities of all individuals involved in Hadi’s killing.

Jaber said all political parties would be invited to join the rally, emphasizing that the movement is focused solely on justice. “We will support only those who stand for justice for Hadi,” he said, warning that a broader campaign will follow the rally.

He also questioned inconsistencies in the charge sheet, noting that police had reported five teams involved in the attack, yet only the shooters were named. “Where are the other teams?” he asked.

Similar demonstrations took place in Chattogram after Friday prayers, starting from the Anderkilla Shahi Jame Mosque and ending at Kazir Dewri.

Ibne Hossain Ziyad, former leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Chattogram, accused the interim government of delaying justice and warned of further protests if action is not taken.

At the Chattogram rally, Rafsan Rakib, convener of Inqilab Moncho’s Chattogram University unit, said the charge sheet does not reflect the full truth and threatened stricter protests if delays continue.

Osman Hadi was a prospective independent candidate from Dhaka-8. On 12 December, miscreants on a motorcycle in the Box Culvert Road area of Paltan shot Hadi and fled.

He was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and then to Evercare Hospital for treatment. As his condition deteriorated, Osman Hadi was taken to Singapore via air ambulance on 15 December for advanced treatment. He died on 18 December while under treatment after one week.

Regarding this incident, Inqilab Moncho’s Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jabir filed an attempted murder case at Paltan Police Station on 14 December. Subsequently, it was converted into a murder case.
