A faction of Jatiya Party declared itself ready for the upcoming elections, while calling on the government to ensure a fair and level playing field for all political parties.
Advocate Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan, member of the party's presidium and member secretary of the Appeal Support Committee, said, "It is the government's responsibility to create an electoral environment and equal opportunities for all parties. The government's failure to do this means putting the country in danger." He made the remarks to journalists after appearing at the Election Commission's Appeal Division on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, to represent the party in ongoing appeal proceedings.
Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan noted that the hearing marked the fifth day of appeals, during which three out of four Jatiya Party candidates had their appeals approved, while one appeal was rejected. "So far, 28 out of 34 candidates have had their appeals approved, and six appeals have been rejected," he said, adding that candidates whose appeals were denied plan to file writ petitions in the High Court.
The approved candidates include Md Fazlul Haque, contesting National Seat No. 55 Rajshahi-4, whose appeal (No. 316) was granted; Muhammad Emdad Hossain Chowdhury, National Seat No. 287 Chittagong-10, appeal No. 316, granted; and AK Fazlul Haque Mandal, National Seat No. 26 Kurigram-4, appeal No. 344 against the validity of his candidacy, was also granted. The appeal of Mustafa Kamal Jahangir, contesting National Seat No. Khulna-6, appeal No. 363, was not granted.
Rezaul Islam emphasised that the Jatiya Party remains committed to participating in the electoral process but urged the authorities to guarantee equal opportunities for all contestants to maintain the integrity and stability of the democratic process.
