Dhaka WASA launches Smart Meter System Pilot Project for water management

With a view to modernizing, improving efficiency, and ensuring sustainability in urban water management, the Inauguration Ceremony of the "Smart Meter System Pilot Project for Smart Water Management (SWM)" was held at the Buriganga Multipurpose Hall, Dhaka WASA Bhaban on Wednesday.

The programme was graced by Adilur Rahman Khan, Adviser, Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives, as the Chief Guest. Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, Secretary, Local Government Division, and Haejung Kim, Charge d'Affaires, Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Bangladesh, were present as Special Guests.

The event was chaired by Engr. Md. Abdus Salam Bapary, Managing Director, Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Dhaka WASA).

During the ceremony, a video presentation highlighting the overall activities of Dhaka WASA was screened.

This was followed by a technical presentation outlining the key features and implementation aspects of the Smart Meter System Pilot Project. A special technical presentation on the Sustainable DMA Management Tool (SDMT) was also delivered.

Speakers at the event stated that the implementation of the smart meter system would significantly contribute to reducing water loss, identifying illegal connections, enhancing transparency in billing, and improving overall customer service.

They expressed optimism that this pilot project would play a transformative role in strengthening water management in Dhaka city.

In his address, the Chief Guest emphasized the importance of utilizing smart technologies to ensure efficiency, transparency, and accountability in urban water management.

He noted that the successful implementation of the pilot project would pave the way for the expansion of smart metering systems on a larger scale in the future.

The programme concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks by the Chair.
